Using U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) feeds for earthquakes magnitude 4.5 and above, this analysis counted 10 events in a 24–28°N, 124–128°E box between 2026-02-26 09:05 UTC and 2026-02-28 09:05 UTC. In the preceding 28 days, the same box recorded two events.
Using that baseline rate, the expected 48-hour count is about 0.14 events; observed was 10, roughly 70 times higher. The same 48-hour window contained 33 global M4.5+ USGS events, meaning this single box contributed about 30% of global moderate-magnitude activity in that period.
This does not establish a disaster trajectory by itself, but it is a strong anomaly signal that justifies close follow-on monitoring.
